The PCI Saints soccer club beat Crocus Plains 2-1 last night in Brandon.

It was their final exhibition match before their West Winnipeg Athletic Conference soccer season opener on Tuesday. The Saints were not only battling their opponents, they had to battle the weather as well. Saints' Head Coach Heather Shindel says it wasn't and easy game for the girls, and gives a quick run down of their victory.

"Overall it was a good game, just very miserable conditions. We scored very early on, Cara Galarneau scored our first goal. In the second half when they did tie it up -- which made it a little scary -- but with 10 minutes left Emily Upgang scored the winning goal to make it 2-1."

Shindel's got high hopes for the club heading into league play next week.

"I think overall the girls have given me a really good feeling of where everyone is supposed to be in their positions. So I'm fairly confident we should do well."

The Saints' home opener is Tuesday at Rotary Republic Park against St. James. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
