The PCI Saints were in championship form last night as they knocked off the WC Miller Aces 5-2 in Zone 4 High School fastpitch.

Saints' Head Coach Cam Asham gives an overview of the game.

"Emily Smith pitched for us. She pitched well, gave up 2 runs on 6 hits and was solid on the first outing of the season for us. We mustard up enough hits ourselves to score 5 runs and get the result we were looking for."

Emily Smith was 2 for 4 at the plate, with 2 runs scored. She gave up 2 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits, with 10 strikeouts in 7 innings pitched. Other notable Saints were, Natanish Wall who was 1 for 1 with a walk and an RBI. Kiera Shwaluk was 1 for 2 with a run scored, while Paige Shwaluk, Sam Turner and Kailee Fraser had the other base hits for the Saints.

Asham credits a lot of their success to the girls' all around love of the game, and each other.

"I think our group always enjoys themselves. They enjoy each others company, and they're all ball players too, so they enjoy being on the diamond together."

Asham found it hard to find a flaw in the girls' performance.

"It was a pretty clean game defensively. We were okay and did enough offensively. So we'll take the win and move on."

The Saints are back in action Monday when they visit Garden Valley in Winkler.
