The PCI Saints made quick work of the Glenlawn Lions today the Winnipeg Women's High School Hockey League. They won 8-1 in an interleague match at the PCU Centre.

At first it looked like the Lions could make a game of things, scoring five minutes in to take a one-nothing lead, but the Saints got things going shortly after with three goals of their own. Maddie Shwaluk popped in her first two of the night, and Bailey Grantham got her first. They tripled their opponents shots 12-4 in 20 minutes.

The bulk of PCI's scoring came in the second period. Paige Shwaluk, Kiera Shwaluk, and Chelsea Owens each netted one, while Grantham picked up her second. Maddie Shwaluk scored her hat trick goal with 14 seconds to go in the second.

"We had a really good start," says Maddie Shwaluk. "Right off the bat we were passing really well and playing as a team, and we were able to score a lot of goals."

Shwaluk finished the night with 5 points. The Saints continued to dominate in the final twenty but weren't able to add to their total. They finished the game with 39 shots on net, while goalie Morgan Klassen slotted another win with 8 saves on the night.

"It's tough with players this age to bring their 'A' game against a team that's so much weaker than you," says head coach Jo-Anne Clark-Gillespie. "They were trying to move the puck a little more, but they weren't doing it with too much speed. It's going to be a totally different game Thursday, so it's a good thing we practice Wednesday night to get our tempo up."

The win puts the Saints into a three-way tie for second place with Springfield and River East, all three teams have 24 points. J H Bruns is three points back and the Saints host them Thursday.
