Game 3 of the Santa Clara Baseball League Championship between the Padres and Mavericks is tonight in Minnedosa.

Portage took Game 1 of the best-of-five 2-nothing in Minnedosa, while the Mavs took game 2 in Portage 14-8 to tie things at 1. Padres' Pitcher Rod McLeod says it wasn't their best performance in Portage Thursday night.

"We didn't exactly pitch the ball well starting with myself, I kind of left the ball up and they took advantage. They had a good hitting display, I think they had mostly got about 15 or 20 hits in the game. We hit the ball but a little to late. We need to tighten up defensively and have a better game in Game 3."

McLeod's hopeful it will be another defensive battle tonight but says it can change from game to game.

"The way the Santa Clara League works is one game you can have a defensive game, and the next game could be a hit parade. So keep the ball down and get some ground balls and usually you can have a defensive game, but if you miss location pitching wise you're going to get whacked."

Game 3 goes tonight in Minnedosa at 6:30 p.m. Game 4's tomorrow in Portage.
