Today's the day to sign up for swimming lesson in Portage la Prairie.

The Central Plains Aquatic Club is holding registration at the PCU Centre tonight. Swim Coach Rob Pehura says they break the classes down into groups sorted by skill level.

"At the pups level, that's on Tuesday's and Thursday's running a couple of times from 5-to-6 and from 6-to-7. We have Junior Sea Lions group, that's just a little step up from that group. Then we have a Main Sea Lions group where they're training 3, 4, or 5 times a week."

Pehura's hopeful there will be an larger number of kids signing up this year because of the Olympics and the Manitoba Summer Games.

"We see that all over the country. I know in Saskatoon I was talking to a coach from there and he was saying they're expecting a pretty big influx of kids. So it's good for swimming, especially after some of the success the Canadian women had at the Summer Games."

He adds if you are really interested in getting signed up it's best to show up a little early as it's mostly first come first serve. Registration opens at 6 p.m. at the PCU Centre.
