The PCI Saints trounced St. John's Ravenscourt last night 8-0 at the PCU Centre.

It was the Saints' home opener in the Winnipeg Women's High School Hockey League 'B' Division. Saints' Captain Bailey Grantham led the way last night with 5 points (2G,3A), and a trio of Shwaluk's -- Kiera, Maddie, and Paige -- combined for 8 points. Three first-year Saints also picked up their first goals with the club, Kami Miller (Grade 10), Brooke Patterson (Grade 9), and Morgan Pearynuik (Grade 12), Perinuk is playing her first year of girls' hockey. Saints' Head Coach Jo-Anne Clark-Gillespie says after a 4 goal first period, they separated their top line and started working on systems.

"We talked a lot about puck possession and trying to work on cycling, and that this was a game that we could actually get everyone involved and work on things. So we split up the Shwaluks (Maddie and Paige), and Bailey (Grantham) on to all 3 lines and told them they need to teach people how to cycle' and other systems. So they did, and I thought they played really well in the 3rd period."

Clark-Gillespie says the rookie ringette players are really coming along skill wise, but they can always fall back on their skating.

"We'll outwork teams," says Clark-Gillespie. "That's going to be our goal for when we're faced with a little bit of a challenge when we're playing is we're going to be hard on the puck, and we're going to work on winning battles and getting loose pucks."

The Saints next game is October 27th in Portage.
