The Southport Golf Club's almost set for their 2016 course opening.

General Manager and Head Professional Dennis Heimpel says the fairways are very green, but there's still some patches of water.

"Right now they're a little bit damp, so it'll be a couple days before we get everything dried up and ready to get carts out and play gold. We were ready last week until that weekend of rain."

A full membership at Southport is only $395, which gives you unlimited golf at the course. Heimpel says they'll be continuing a few of the things they started last season.

"The Friday Night 9 and Dines will continue this year, and we hope to expand on that. Friday May 5th with be the first evening for that, and our Men's and Ladies leagues start the first week of May."

Southport's start is a little later than last season, but Heimpel says the early moisture will really help the course. He adds they've added drainage to help move some of the water, and with a few days of sun and wind, the course should be looking amazing.
