Portage Terriers' Head Coach Blake Spiller is the CJHL's Coach of the Year for 2016.

This is the second time in as many years Spiller's taken the award. He says it came as a shock, as there was no official announcement for the winners. Spiller's thrilled to take home the award, and says it's a great accomplishment for the entire organization.

"Obviously it's good for our organization, and our staff. As you know we've had the same staff since I've taken over as General Manager and Head Coach. So they've been here all along, and all that familiarity has been very key for us."

The Terriers have won 6 Turnbull Cup Championships since Spiller took over as GM and Head Coach, and one National RBC Cup Championship. Spiller says being a successful team comes down to everyone working together to bring in the best players possible.

"Obviously you have to have good players to be a good coach. So I think that Paul (Harland) and I discuss players quite often, that could be available. And work with Frank (Harding) and the scouts is obviously really key to getting the guys that you want."

Spiller gives insight into how they're able to bring in such talented players.

"We look for guys who are honest, hard working guys that will compete. We try to get the most out of them, and if you can, you'll have a chance as long as you've got the right guys talent wise."

The Terriers finished the 2015-16 season with a 52-6-2 record.
