After another amazing season, Portage Terriers' Head Coach and GM Blake Spiller's found him self on the docket for the CJHL's Coach of the Year Award.

The Canadian Junior Hockey League recently announced their finalists for the award. Spiller's been recognized for his ability to put together an incredible team that carried him all the way to the Western Canada Cup in Estevan, after losing more than 10 from the previous year. The Terriers finished the MJHL season with a 52-6-2 record and won the Turnbull Cup in 13 games, almost repeating their incredible sweep of the playoffs in 2015. Spiller also won the MJHL's Coach of the Year for his second straight year.

Spiller says a lot of credit needs to go to the returning players.

"I think that we obviously weren't really sure what we were going to have coming into the year, other than we knew we were going to have the top guys coming back as leaders, and they did just that. Things seemed to start off good for us this year, and just kept on rolling."

He says every team eventually struggles with losing players, it's a matter of handling it right.

"Whether your young guys are moving on to higher levels, or obviously your 20 year olds are finished playing juniors. So I think that every year has it's challenges for every organization."
