The Portage Terriers are quite pleased with their selections in the 2016 MJHL Draft.

Portage walked away with 4 players, after losing a couple of picks to trades from the past.

The Terriers got forward Jason Kotchon out of Winnipeg in the first round. Portage's Head Scout Frank Harding says he fits the Terriers' style well.

"Jason's a very good player. He's good in all 3 zones, he's got a real high work ethic, and a high battle level. He's kind of a guy you'd think the Terriers would like."

The dogs also got forward Tanner Morrison of Brandon in the second round. Harding says Morrison's play mimics that of Kotchon.

"They're good kids, they battle hard, and they both have the ability to score some goals also. Both those kids are Terriers' players and we're very happy to get them."

The Terriers made two picks in the 5th round. They got Winnipeg defenseman Ryden Fedyck 3rd in the 5th round, through a trade with Dauphin. Harding says Fedyck was a WHL Draftee with some high skill.

"He's a high end defenseman, probably as good a defenseman as there is in the province. So we took a chance an drafted him also.

They also picked up Brandon goaltender Trent Miner. Harding expects Miner to be a strong goalie.

"He was a very high draft pick in the Western Hockey League. He's touted by the rest of the scouts in the league to be the best goalie in Manitoba. Hopefully someday he'll play for us."

Portage la Prairie's Max Neill -- a forward -- and defenseman Logan Rands. Austin MB forward Zak Smith, and Oakville's Brandon MacKenzie-Kochen.
