The Portage Terriers sent their hometown fans home happy last night and moved one game closer to the Turnbull Cup finals in the process.

The club earned a 3-1 victory over the Winnipeg Blues at the PCU Centre, giving them a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven Addison Division finals. The game was a tight, defensive affair with the score staying at 0-0 until the third period.

Madam, I'm Adam. Iwan and Robson stretch it out prior to game time.

The deadlock was finally snapped at the 5:54 mark of the final frame when Tanner Waldvogel blasted a one-timer past Isiah Plett on the powerplay. The local product takes us through the goal.

Midway through the period, the Blues found the equalizer when Jared Morris tapped one past Adam Iwan, knotting things back up at 1-1. The tie lasted all of nine seconds as off the ensuing face-off, Brent Wold burst into the zone and buried his 6th of the playoffs. Waldvogel added an empty-netter late in the game to make it a 3-1 final.

Playoff flow is in full effect in the Terrier dressing room as evidenced by the starting line-up.

Adam Iwan earned the victory between the pipes, stopping 26 of 27 shots. With the win, Iwan improves his playoff record to 7-1 while lowering his goals against average to 2.28 and increasing his save percentage to .914. The 18-year-old backstop says his confidence continued to increase as the game wore on.

Adam Iwan's 26-save performance guided the Terriers to another playoff victory.

The Terriers have the chance to wrap up the series on Monday night when the two teams meet up for game six in Headingley. That game goes at 7:30 pm from the MTS IcePlex.
