No one said it would be a quick series.

The Portage Terriers and Selkirk Steelers play Game 3 of their best-of-seven Manitoba Junior Hockey League Quarter-final tonight. Each team has a victory on the road as the Terriers took Game 1 in Selkirk, and the Steelers won Sunday night in Portage to even the series.

"I thought we played pretty good throughout to give ourselves a two-goal lead, and for whatever reason, we didn't keep the foot on the pedal and didn't get the job done," says head coach Blake Spiller when asked about their Game 2 loss. "It's definitely a series that everyone expected to go a while but we were hoping to get a two game lead (Sunday) and be going into their rink with that lead but they've got home ice back and we'll just have to be better tonight."

The Terriers' special team units haven't been in top shape this postseason. They're zero-for-nine on the powerplay and have allowed three goals on the penalty kill in 10 chances. They also allowed a shorthanded goal in Sunday's loss.

"Our powerplay definitely needs to get better," says Spiller. "I thought we were pretty disciplined and they were a little more undisciplined, and with that two-goal lead if we would've got the next one it would've been huge. So our powerplay didn't get the job done for us Sunday like it should."

"You have to have a short memory in the playoffs as everybody knows," adds Spiller. "We got the first one and forgot about it, we almost had Game 2 and we need to forget about it and get going early in Game 3. Hopefully, we'll get some bounces and we'll play the way we need. I thought we were pretty solid until Selkirk scored their shorthanded goal and then they seemed to take our momentum away, and that shouldn't happen."

Tonight's game starts at 7:30 p.m. in Selkirk. You can hear it on CFRY and at Portage Online with the pregame show starting at 7:20.
