The Portage Terriers suffered their first loss of the Western Canada Cup today as the West Kelowna Warriors won 3-2 in overtime. The game started slow for Portage with the team taking a penalty 4 minutes into the game.

Brian Basilico would tip one home 13 seconds into the power play for the Warriors to give his team the lead. Portage would run into more penalty trouble with both Turner Santin and Nick Henry going to the box for hitting to the head and holding. With the 5 on 3 power play about to expire Basilico would get the Warriors on the board once again when he banged one home in front of the net. With less than a minute in the first period, Brett Orr would get his team on the board when he threw one toward the net from the high slot and it found it’s way over Keelan Williams. The Terriers would learn their lesson and stay out of the box for the rest of the game, except for an off setting penalty for roughing late in the first between Shawn Bowles and Kyle Marino.

The Terriers would start to control the game in the second outshooting West Kelowna 11-3. Brock Weston led the rush early in the second from his own blue line and Adam Wowryk potted home the rebound from Weston's shot to tie the game at 2. Portage would continue to apply the pressure in the third, at one point outshooting West Kelowna 12-0. Both teams would get some great chances, but neither could break the tie in regulation.

It was a short 4 on 4 overtime period as the Warriors used the extra space to their advantage and snuck one past Nathan Park to win the game. Park stopped 21 of the 24 shots he faced. He and Williams were named the players of the game for their respective clubs.

The Terriers play again Wednesday night at 8pm MB time against the Brooks Bandits. If the Terriers win they will clinch a spot in the 1 vs 2 tournament final. If they lose, their fate will depend on the West Kelowna vs Melfort game on Thursday. So far Brooks is a perfect 2-0, as they beat The Warriors 4-2 and Melfort 3-0. The game will be broadcast on CFRY and portageonline.com starting with the pregame show at 7:50pm.
