The Portage Terriers have punched their ticket to the Manitoba Junior Hockey League Championship. They swept the Winnipeg Blues in 4 games, thanks to last night's 6-2 victory at the MTS Iceplex in Winnipeg.

After a scoreless first period, the Terriers exploded for 5 goals in-a-row in the second. Dean Stewart, Brad Bowles, and Shawn Bowles each netted one, while rookie Nick Henry had 2. The Blues would score a late goal in the second to make it 5-1.

Winnipeg was the first one on the board in the third, but Portage quickly countered with Shawn Bowles' second of the night. The dogs continued to pressure their opponents until the final buzzer, sealing their series win.

Nick Henry celebrates his second goal with linemates last night

Nathan Park made 25 saves in the win for Portage. Terriers' Captain Brad Bowles gives his thoughts on the series.

"I thought it was a pretty rough series but we handled it pretty well. We had offense all series and it helped us out."

The Bowles twins and Nick Henry combined for 9 points last night for Portage, 5 goals and 4 assists. Terriers' Assistant Coach Paul Harland says they progressively got better throughout the series.

"I think that as the series got going, Nick got a little bit more comfortable with a little bit of a different speed this series than the first series. Once he got comfortable, and got some playoff experience, I think having those guys (Bowles twins) helps that. They were dominant in this series, and they're a big reason why we're moving on."

Sam Houston made his MJHL playoff debut as an AP for Portage. He talks about his experience.

"It was a crazy atmosphere out there, I wasn't expecting it to be like that. I owe a lot to my D partners there, they helped me out the whole time and really made it fun, and enjoyable."

The Terriers now await the winner of the Steinbach/Winkler series. The Flyers hold a 3-1 series lead after winning last night.
