The Portage Terriers kept their season alive last night as they snuck out a 3-2 double overtime win over the Melfort Mustangs. The Terriers were on their heels early in the game as the Mustangs outshot Portage in the first 13-5.  Miles Warkentine would score first on the power play for Melfort when he banked in a shot off of a shin pad in front of the net. The Terriers would respond less than a minute later when Brad Bowles took a back door pass from Nick Henry and slipped it in the side.

Portage came out stronger in the second period, but Melfort was the only one to score, as Juston Boyer flipped the puck up and over Nathan Park at the side of the net. Whatever was said in the dressing room in the second intermission seemed to fire up the Terriers, as they came out flying in the third period. On the power play Brock Weston had his point shot stopped, but Chase Brakel picked up the puck in front and slid it around Richard Palmer. It would stay locked at two heading to overtime.

Fatigue would start to play a factor in overtime with nobody having enough energy to take penalties. The goalies would start to steal the show in overtime with Nathan Park making 10 saves in the first overtime period and 5 more in the second. Portage managed only 3 shots in the first overtime and 4 in the second. Nick Henry would play the hero as he tipped a Brad Bowles shot past Palmer 9:19 into the second OT period.

Nathan Park was named the player of the game for Portage. He made 40 saves on 42 shots. The Portage Terriers now play the loser of the Brooks vs West Kelowna game on Sunday at 5pm MB time. The winner of the game on Sunday will earn the second trip to the RBC Cup.
