It took over 90 minutes of hockey for the Portage Terriers to emerge victorious last night over the visiting Steinbach Pistons. Mackenzie Dwyer was the hero for Portage in triple overtime as the dogs won 4-3. With Rogers Hometown hockey festivities going on outside, over 1200 fans packed into Stride Place for game 2 of the best of 7 MJHL semi-final.

The Pistons got the scoring started early in the first period. Braden Purtill had a seeing eye wrist shot find it's way through traffic into the top corner. Carter McMurdo would respond for Portage seven minutes later scoring his first as a Terrier. The Brandon product fired a point shot over the shoulder of Steinbach goalie Roman Bengert. Portage would take their first lead of the game with less than five minutes to play in the first period. Chase Brakel scored his third of the post-season with a quick snapshot from the mid-slot.

It was a rough second period for Portage in game one, and they were determined to not let that happen again. Ty Barnstable tipped home a Layne Toder point shot 1:32 into the second frame. Steinbach would cut the Terrier lead back down to one 30 seconds later when Tyson McConnell fired home a wrist shot.

The Pistons would tie the game up early in the third. Rookie Will Koop finished off a perfect pass from Tyler Anderson off the rush. The goalies would take over; the game remained deadlocked at 3 into overtime. The first two overtime periods solved nothing. The Terriers came out with energy to start the third overtime period and 43 seconds into the frame Mackenzie Dwyer slammed home a rebound in front for the win.

Brock Aiken made 39 saves for his second win of the playoffs. The Terriers and Pistons are now tied 1-1 heading into game 3 on Wednesday night at the T.G. Smith Centre in Steinbach.
