Solid goaltending and 2 strong power plays in the third period lifted the Portage Terriers to a 6-3 road victory over the Winnipeg Blues last night at the MTS Iceplex. The Winnipeg Blues came ready to compete in the first period by playing the body and outshooting Portage 14-6. Geordie Keane would get the Blues on the board when he finished off a 3 on 2 rush halfway through the first period. The Terriers' newly acquired forward Josh Martin, from the Swan Valley Stampeders, scored his first as a Terrier from a rebound off the boards to tie the game 3 minutes later.

Despite the shot differential, Portage would take their first lead of the night early in the 2nd period when Aidan Buhler crashed the net. It was the first goal of his MJHL career. The lead would be short-lived as Dexter Kuczek tied the game 45 seconds later following a 3 on 2 rush once again. The Blues would continue their pressure and make it 3-2 when former Terrier captain Adam Wowryk knocked it home at the side of the net.

Before the 2nd period was through both teams were awarded a penalty shot. Ryan Sokoloski scored on his attempt to tie the game at 3, but Levi Cudmore couldn't make it 4-3 for the Blues on his attempt a few minutes later.

The Terrier power play came to life in the third period; James McIsaac scored off a rebound in the slot, and 5 minutes later Josh Martin tipped a point shot for his second of the night. The 5th Terrier goal on just 15 shots would end the night of Winnipeg goalie Adam Derochie. Sokoloski would score his 17th goal of the season for Portage on the empty net to seal the game at 6-3. Kurtis Chapman made 33 saves to pick up his 5th win of the season. Portage is now off until Sunday when they host the Dauphin Kings at 6:30 pm.
