The Portage Terriers play their first game of the Western Canada Cup today against the top team from the SJHL the Battlefords North Stars. Each game is important in a short tournament like the WCC with the top four teams making the playoffs.

The North Stars will be a tough test for Portage as they were dominant in the SJHL finishing first in the regular season and sweeping their way through the playoffs. Coby Downs is their top player; he had 72 points in 46 games during the regular season.

Battlefords head coach Nate Bedford says they are a tough team to score against. "We're very responsible defensively. We don't give up a lot of opportunities...from top to bottom we are a physical team."

"Nobody's won it until it's over" says Terrier forward Ty Enns. "As long as we come ready to play I think we have as good of chance as anybody."

Puck drop is at 4 pm (MB time) with the play by play on CFRY and Portageonline.com starting at 3:50 pm with the pregame show.
