The Portage Terriers (28-14-1) are on the ice tonight in Manitoba Junior Hockey League action at the PCU Centre in Portage la Prairie. The Terriers look to do something they haven't been able to this season, beat the first-place Steinbach Pistons (35-6-1).

The Pistons have won all three meetings against the Dogs this season, with the latest coming Jan. 4 at the PCU Centre.

"They're a really quick team," says Terriers forward Chase Brakel. "They're good on the rush. If we turn over the puck in the neutral zone or even their zone, they've got four guys coming back (the other way). They're really dangerous that way, so that's what we have to watch out for."

Portage is 3-2 in their last five games to Steinbach's 7-1 in January. The Terriers have been struggling to find any consistency in the win column this month, going 5-4.

"That's something we really need to improve on," says captain Riley Thiessen. "We had a good game against Swan Valley and the complete opposite against the Wolverines. We just need to improve on that and it starts in practice."

The shining light for the Terriers has been their powerplay. They've scored 10 times in their last 29 opportunities and boast an incredible 34.4 per cent success rate.

"We've just started funnelling pucks to the net," admits Brakel. "(The powerplay) changed a little recently. We have two guys in front ready to pounce on rebounds, and some of the goals are nice tic-tac-toe goals, but a lot of them are rebounds and finding the puck in front of the net."

The Terriers and Pistons face off at 7:30 at the PCU Centre. That game can be heard on CFRY and portageonline.com.
