Portage Terriers began the Western Canada Cup tournament in Penticton, BC with a 5-3 victory over Battlefords North Stars.

The Stars opened the scoring with the only goal of the first period, and took a 1-0 lead into the dressing room.

The Terriers stormed back in the second with a pair of goals from Chase Brakel and Mackenzie Dwyer.

Brakel got his second of the night just over two minutes into the third, and Dwyer followed with his second just over seven minutes later.

Battlefords came back with two goals, to draw within one, but Ty Enns got the insurance marker into an empty net to seal the win.

Kurtis Chapman faced 31 shots in goal.
