In the grand scheme of things - what's one more game.

The South East Prairie Thunder and Ile des Chenes North Stars both have to win back-to-back games in order to reach the final of the 2016 Allan Cup in Steinbach.

The Prairie Thunder and the North Stars finished the round robin with 1-1 records and will play in the quarterfinals today.

The defending champions were relegated to second place in their division when the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts defeated the Shellbrook Elks 3-2 Wednesday night.

South East will face the Stoney Creek Generals at 8 p.m.

Ile des Chenes dropped a 4-3 decision to the Bentley Generals in their final round robin game yesterday afternoon.

The Generals rallied in the third period as Ian Schultz scored the tying goal with 7:23 remaining and Matt Stefanishion potted his second of the game with 1:55 left.

"They're a good hockey team, it does sting though," said North Stars forward Lee Goren who scored 35 seconds into the game and also drew assists on second period goals by Devon Leblanc and Matt Miller. "Going into the third period up a goal, you want to be able to finish the job. They work hard, they play hard and they're aggressive. They're physical and they wear you down. You've got to give credit where credit is due."

Ile des Chenes goaltender Ryan Person faced 37 shots.

North Stars forward Anders Strome says their power play, which was 0-for-8 against Bentley, needs to be better when they face Shellbrook at 4 p.m. in the quarterfinals.

"That let us down a little bit today," said Strome. "We got to get more pucks to the net. We were getting set up but we were getting too many blocked shots. We got to bear down on the our power plays."

The Elks were 0-2 in the round robin but were extremely competitive in those losses to the Prairie Thunder and Cataracts.

Ile des Chenes head coach Rob Friesen says his message to his team prior to the start of today's elimination game will be to stay postive, have fun and enjoy the moment.

"As long as we put the effort in, you can't say anything bad to the players," said the North Stars bench boss. "That's the bottom line. They've been together for three days and they've had three hard practices. They've shown a lot. I'm very happy with them and I know we can be better."

Grand Falls-Windsor and Bentley have a bye to tomorrow's semifinals.
