The Treherne Delahunt Golf & Country Club has been enjoying a great start to the golf season.

General manager Ryan Simpson says they were very busy to start off the year as the weather was perfect for golfing. He says the course is looking beautiful.

"The course wintered really well, and it is in great shape," says Simpson. "There has been a lot of water for us in this area, even though it was a dry start to the year. So, the course has gotten off to a good start and the rain we've had over the past few days has certainly been welcome."

Simpson says with the new restrictions for May long weekend, it is a great time to get some rain on the course. He notes one of the biggest challenges this year has been making sure everyone follows provincial guidelines.

"A lot of people kind of thought when they came to the golf course, they could still act how they would have in the past," Simpson explains. "Doing little things like getting close together in tee boxes and sharing clubs. With the rules the way they are you can golf but none of that is really allowed. I think they just forget."

Simpson notes golfers have gotten more used to the restrictions as the season has gone on and adds anyone he's had to remind about guidelines have been extremely understanding about the matter. He says he's gotten a ton of help from other courses as he is still very new to the job and is very grateful for the advice they've shared.

Simpson says they are unaware of how things will be structured because of COVID-19 restrictions but says they do have some events planned.

"Last year was our 50th anniversary and everything was pretty much cancelled. So, we're hopefully going to have some 50th-anniversary celebrations this year," says Simpson. "The Senior Men's Tournament is the first tournament of the year on June 17. People can call the clubhouse to register for that."For more details on upcoming tournaments or information about the Treherne golf club click here.
