The PCI Trojans baseball team continues to roll.

Jayson Brooks put in a strong pitching performance and the offence came to life, as the Portage Collegiate Institute (PCI) Trojans swept a doubleheader, beating the Morden Thunder 4-2 and 9-0 in Manitoba High School Athletics Association (MHSAA) Zone 4 action Monday night in Morden.

The Trojans improved to 9-1-0 this season and currently sit atop the Zone 4 standings.

Brooks held Morden at bay in the first game of the doubleheader, allowing just one run, unearned, on one hit while walking two in four innings. Joey Moffatt picked up the save, striking out one while giving up two hits and one earned run.

Brody Moffatt had two RBIs to pace the offence, which managed just three hits. The Trojans scored in the first inning to go ahead 1-0, then added another in the top of the fourth. Morden answered with one run in the bottom half, with PCI holding a slim 2-1 lead heading into the fifth. The offence came through with a pair of runs to make it 4-1 and Moffatt was able to close things out.

The second game of the doubleheader was much different, as the Trojans scored early and often, plating five runs in the first inning en route to a 9-0 rout.

Chance Dickenson had three RBIs, while Matt Boychuk, Tyler Van Deynze and Lane Blight each added two.

Joey Moffatt picked up the win on the mound, striking out five while allowing two hits and no runs in three innings of work.

The Trojans (9-1-0) are back on the diamond Wednesday, when they host a doubleheader against Northlands Parkway Collegiate Nighthawks (3-5-0) at Republic Park.
