The Portage Collegiate Institute (PCI) Trojans baseball team had little trouble in their first road games of the 2017 Manitoba High School Athletics Association Zone 4 season.

Joey Moffat, Jayson Brooks and Matt Boychuk each had two RBIs as the Trojans downed Mennonite Collegiate Blues 15-3, then followed that with a 6-0 win to sweep a doubleheader in Altona Thursday evening.

In the first game, Tyler Van Deynze picked up the win on the mound, pitching 1 2/3 innings of shutout ball, while striking out two and walking one. Chance Dickenson allowed three runs, all earned, on two hits and four walks while striking out three in 1 1/3 inning. Kyle Van Deynze also pitched a shutout inning, walking one and striking out the side.

Jayson Brooks and Tanner Boyle combined to pitch five shutout innings in PCI's 6-0 win in the latter game of the doubleheader. Brooks started the game and struck out two, walked one and allowed just one hit in three innings of work. Boyle picked up the save, striking out four in two shutout innings of one-hit ball. Boychuk had two RBIs, while Dickenson and Lane Blight each added one.

The Trojans (3-1) return to action next Monday for a road doubleheader against Sanford Sabres (2-0).

FIELD LACROSSE LOSS

The PCI Trojans-Saints fell to 1-1 in the Manitoba High School Field Lacrosse League. The Westwood Warriors clipped PCI 5-1 Thursday evening in Winnipeg.
