Portage Collegiate came away with two wins today in the Manitoba High School Field Lacrosse League. They went up against Léo-Rémillard Renards in a double header and managed to win both games by a 5-2 score.

They jumped to 3-2-1 after the victories. The Trojans looked ready to go right from the start and they didn't seem to let up throughout the day. Head coach Al Patterson says their effort level was night and day compared to Thursday's loss.

"We played a lot better today that's for sure," says Patterson. "It makes a big difference for us when we can actually control the ball and make the plays that we're supposed to make on the inside and create some chances offensively. I'm not going to take anything away from our defence though, they played great with the stick and were able to knock the ball away a lot. That also helps on the defensive side."

Donovan Brown led the Trojans offensively in the first game. He managed to get himself involved in all five goals, finishing the night with two goals and three assists. Avery Scarrett and Logan Calder also scored for the Trojans. Goalie Riley Sveistrup allowed two goals in each game but turned away quite a few Renards' chances.

The Trojans took a little longer to get on the board in game two. Brandon Mackenzie-Kochen opened the scoring in the second quarter, Megan Ferg also netted one to give the Trojans at 2-1 lead at the half. Ferg and Mackenzie-Kochen both scored again in the second half. Donovan Brown scored the fifth and final goal.

"We had a lot of teamwork out there for sure," says Mackenzie-Kochen. "We came ready to play today. We got our one slap in the face yesterday and we made sure to come ready and prepared."

The Trojans final two games are against Vincent Massey Winnipeg and RD Parker. They face Vincent Massey Tuesday in Winnipeg.
