The Portage Collegiate Institute Trojans (1-1-1) are in Manitoba High School Field Lacrosse League action today. They're up against the Vincent Massey Trojans (1-1-2) from Winnipeg at Optimist Park West.

The Trojans managed to steal a point in a 3-3 tie with first place Westwood a week ago, after falling 6-1 to the Warriors before that. They're one point back of Vincent Massey with a game in hand.

"That 5-1 loss to Westwood we weren't ready to play at all..." says goalie Riley Sveistrup. "...and after that we got it handed to us in practice, and the following weekend we came prepared and it really showed in the game."

Assistant coach Bill Marsh feels the team's improved a lot since the start of the year.

"The team has progressed really well. In practices, we've been working on things like communication and playing good defence, all those things that a team needs to do to be successful we're starting to see that come around now."

Sveistrup says they'll be missing a few players for the game but if they can play the way they did last week they should find some success.

Today's game starts at 4 in Winnipeg.
