The Canadian Men's Senior AAA Hockey Championships Allan Cup Tournament starts today in Steinbach.

Two Portage Islanders forwards will be taking part in the historic tournament, which has been running for over a hundred years. Tanner Waldvogel, along with Anders Strome, will both be playing for the Ile-des-Chenes North Stars. Waldvogel gives his thoughts on taking part in the over century old tournament.

"Yeah, you know it's got a lot of history. It's not something you really think you're going to end up playing in, but when you get a chance to it's pretty special."

Waldvogel says they've had a few exhibition games prior to the tournament, and he's impressed with their play so far.

"We played a handful of games, and some guys you know better than others, other guys you're just meeting for the first time. We've skated this weekend, and I like what I've seen. We've got a big, quick team, a lot of guys have experience in the tournament, and that should hopefully help us."

Ile-des-Chenes opens the tournament today against the Ontario Hockey Association's Stoney Creek General at 4 p.m. at the TG Smith Centre in Steinbach.
