Although there was no massive crowd gathered at Bethel Heritage Park on Sunday (like there was Thursday evening), residents of the Pembina Valley were glued to their TV sets for Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the San Jose Sharks and the Pittsburgh Penguins.  Winkler's own Eric Fehr would once again contribute a solid defensive effort as the Penguins controlled most of the game en route to a 3-1 win, capturing the team's fourth Stanley Cup and first for Fehr.

The Winklerite played a pivotal role in Pittsburgh's path to victory, spending much time checking and on the penalty kill.  He also scored a very important insurance goal, late in the third period of Game 4.

Through all of the twists and turns of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, this hometown boy hasn't forgotten where he comes from.  When he heard of the massive gathering planned for Game 5, he released this statement,

“I’m really appreciative of everyone’s support. My hometown has really rallied around our team and around myself during this exciting time. I’m appreciative of all the support that my town has given me over the years. Hopefully we can win this one and bring the Cup back to Winkler."

And bring back the cup he will!  But first, a large celebration with his family and teammates, and a little rest and recouperation from the long journey to victory!

Congratulation Eric!
