It's the time for winter sports registration in Portage la Prairie.

The Portage Skating Club's holding their first registration session tonight at the PCU Centre. They'll be accepting applications for their CanSkate, StarSkate, and GroupSkate programs. PSC President Shawn Cabak says they have something for every level of skater.

"The CanSkate program is a Skate Canada learn to skate program for beginners of all ages. CanSkate teaches the fundamental movements of skating, which is forward, backwards, stop, turn, spin, jumping and basic skills. Excellence/Beginner programs lead into figure skating, and hockey and ringette, or recreational skating."

Cabak says the winter season starts on October 4th, which is when the CanSkate Winter Program would start. He adds skaters can get involved ASAP if they're interested.

"We do have a summer school starting this week that runs for two weeks, then we have a fall school in September. That's more for the older kids, more of the Star and Group skaters."

The Portage Skating Club's registration is from 6-8 tonight.

It's also Portage Minor Hockey's registration period. They're only accepting online applications this time around, so head to their website.
