200 Bricks is a fundraising effort created by Portage la Prairie student Kirsten Trimble, who's led the effort to help students in Nicaragua.

"We are trying to fundraise $10,000 to build a classroom in a rural community in Nicaragua called El Trapiché," explains Trimble. "And that rural community will basically be the high school for that small village and for three or four other small villages in the same area."

She says the idea's to get high school students to graduate more sooner than they currently can, seeing as they attend school one day a week for four to five hours. With a new classroom, she adds, they can achieve their education faster and this helps the world progress that much more.

Trimble notes they've done three barbecues, and each year help Rocky Mountain Equipment with their inventory to provide their time in counting parts and in return receive a lunch and a $500 donation. She adds she's not actually going to help build the classroom, but had been in the community back in 2015 with the PCI Social Justice group and a group from Roblin to assist with building a playground. While on that trip, they discovered the need for the new classroom.

Trimble notes she hopes to make a trip to the town again soon, but University comes first.
