The community of Sidney just received the donation of an Automated external defibrillator from the Austin Lions Club. Sidney Community Centre president Pearl Wieler explains how it came about.

Pearl Wieler"One of the Austin Lions members had been in our hall," says Wieler. "And saw that I posted information on the wall about an AED at Shady Oaks Campground. I put the phone number there. He approached me and asked if they could donate an AED to our Community Centre."

She says they already have the AED on location, but the formal presentation will take place at the Austin Community Centre on Saturday, April 8th, at the Lions Club fun night and fundraiser roast beef dinner. Wieler adds they're happy to have it, and the more people who know about it the better.

If you'd like to take in the dinner it's $25 a ticket.

Lions member Chad Bodnarchuk says Sidney was identified as an area that lacked an AED and was the only community remaining in the Municipality that didn't have one. Now that Sidney has been given the donation, the entire Municipality of North Norfolk is covered with devices. He notes if the need arises, every community now has that provision. Bodnarchuk says the AED's cost about $2,500.
