According to a recent survey conducted by the Age Friendly committee in Treherne, there is an interest in having a public washroom facility located in the town.

Norfolk-Treherne Reeve Craig Spencer says there is something similar in communities of the RM of Grey and explains council has decided to support the Age Friendly committee's endeavour.

"The council made a decision to support the Age Friendly committee in having them organise and pay for this first year of the trial and put a porta potty near the centre of Treherne. We've suggested an area that would be possible so that that availability would be there for anyone who needed to use a washroom."

He notes a porta potty isn't an ideal situation but depending on the response in terms of usage and how well the restroom is maintained, decisions will be made in the following year concerning what happens next.

Spencer explains the Age Friendly committee has many innovative ideas for the community.

"This is an innovation Age Friendly came up with and they've done many other ones in the community and make suggestions to council to improve the community, both here and Rathwell, in terms of what we can do to assist people who maybe have lack of mobility or just have certain needs."

Spencer adds he applauds the committee for coming up with the initiative, noting too often we take things for granted and many times the incentive has to come from volunteer groups.
