The Association of Manitoba Municipalities continues to float the idea of a new 1% infrastructure tax.
AMM president Doug Dobrowolski says something has to be done to address the $11 billion infrastructure deficit in our province. The association is using it mayors, reeves and cao meetings to gauge the level of interest. Municipal leaders gathered in Boissevain for the Western District meeting yesterday. There was a mixed reaction but a number of civic leaders did support the concept.
Dobrowolski admits the province hasn't shown a keen interest in the plan. However he says other options could be developed to generate the funds needed to make infrastructure improvements across Manitoba.
