The annual Arron's Chance 2 Play Charity Golf Tournament took place today at the Portage Golf Club.

Arron Asham says they had a bit of a scare with the morning rain but the skies cleared before the first tee-off and he notes it turned out to be a good day. He adds they had plenty of support.

Organizer Nancy Funk says the course was full with 144 golfers out for the day. She comments on how this year's turnout compares to previous years.

"It fluctuates every year, obviously people have things that come and go and weddings and whatever else takes them away from here. But we're always fortunate enough that we do have the community's support and a lot of our golfers are returning from year to year so we're happy to see them back."

She notes they'd also like to send a thank you to their corporate sponsors, many of whom have been supporting them from the start.

"We definitely appreciate that because without them this doesn't happen. Meseyton, Portage Mutual and Portage Co-op are our three big sponsors so we'd like to send a big thank you to them as well."

The tournament supports Chance 2 Play, an organisation which funds kids from the central region to play hockey. Funk adds the tournament is a great fundraiser for the program.
