The Portage Regional Recreation Authority announced an anonymous donation they received recently.

"We received a donation in the amount of $9,500 from an anonymous donor to build a new batting cage at Rotary Republic Park," says PRRA General Manager David Sattler. "We know the old one is in need of some upgrades and repairs and we've been looking at doing this for a little while now. We're looking at constructing a two-lane batting cage that will be able to accommodate many of our large tournaments, and also just be a better place for the youth to practice their baseball skills."

Sattler says they've got a lot of work going on at Rotary Republic Park, and it's all in hopes of bringing more events to Portage.

"Besides the batting cage we're looking at doing some renovations on some dugouts to close them in. There are some possible infield improvements in the works, pitching mounds are getting done on one. We're also doing the bullpens on seven and eight, they've kind of been neglected over the past couple of years so we want to get them up into tip-top shape."

Sattler's confident with a few upgrades they'll be able to bring in a lot more tournaments to Rotary Republic Park.
