Portage la Prairie City Council discussed a petition against the construction of bulb-outs along Crescent Road at their meeting Monday night.

Portage Resident Leo Lapointe started the petition that gained 297 signatures. He says he was hearing a lot of concern from people in the city.

"A lot of the comments were (bulb-outs) would be unsafe. With big vehicles it was hard to turn, on 4th where the buses were, the busses were having a hard time. It was just a lot of concern from the 297 names I had of concerns of crosswalks. More crosswalks, lit up crosswalks, and more painted crosswalks where they're noticed."

He says the bulb-outs work along Saskatchewan Avenue, but Crescent Road is much to small and it's dangerous.

"So I'm hoping (Council) heard what the citizens said, and I'm hoping they make the right decisions. Spend all the money they were going to spend on the bulb-outs on more crosswalks."

Council was just testing the bulb-outs this year over the summer, they haven't made a decision to go forward with construction.
