In hopes of further growing the community, the Town of Arborg made slight increases to its Development Incentive program.

Mayor Randy Sigurdson says the town's former model allowed for up to 50 per cent municipal tax forgiveness for three years for new developments. At its meeting this week, council passed an increase that would allow up to an 80 per cent rebate in year one, Sigurdson says.

"We feel that's a very strong indiciation of our commitment to development in the town," Sigurdson says. "Hopefully it will encourage people to want to put down roots here."

Sigurdson says there are certain parameters, such as the type of development -- residential or commericial -- or the occupancy of the building, that affect the amount of tax forgiveness. He adds development incentive programs have worked well for Arborg in the past, and the increase will make the community more attractive to those looking to invest.
