The Portage la Prairie RCMP are seeking assistance in their search for a man suspected of armed robbery.

On May 28th police were called to the gas station at the junction of Highway 1 and 16, to a report of an armed robbery. Employees and witnesses reported a man entered the store with a long-barrel firearm, and demanded money and cigarettes. The suspect was wearing a white t-shirt, camo shorts, and sandals, while hiding his face with a black covering.

Police later received a report that a man who matched the description was seen running from a silver Dodge Ram. The vehicle had broken down on Provincial Road 305, and police located someone who was believed to be an accomplice.

As the investigation continued, RCMP learned the male suspect was 35 year-old Jonathan Lee Daniels of Long Plain First Nation. A warrant for his arrest was obtained, and he's now facing firearm and robbery charges. Police say they're not sure if Daniels is still in possession of the fire arm.

If anyone has information on his whereabouts, they're asked to contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers. Police emphasize you should not approach Daniels, and should call police immediately.
