The RM of Armstrong council has been approached by a man looking to build a 6 cabin lodge near Chatfield. Jeremy Loewen came to council in hopes of building a getaway lodge for hunters and outdoors enthusiasts. RM of Armstrong reeve Jack Cruise explains.

"Mr. Loewen had attended our council meeting to give us an update on what he's planning to do, and also talk to us to make sure the land he's going to put the lodge on is zoned properly. His initial plan is to build a 6 cabin lodge to accommodate hunters in the spring and fall, and then expand it into a year round vacation or getaway from the city type retreat."

Cruise says council is interested in the proposal, but notes there are a few zoning bylaws that need to be looked at before anything can be done.

"We just have to make sure that the land that he's planning on using is zoned properly to accommodate his plans. It's zoned as agricultural land but, in the RM of Armstrong, it's not farmland or grain land, it's bush and swamp land that could possibly be used for pasture. That would be it's highest level of agricultural use, so if it could be made use of as a tourism type thing it would be interesting for the RM."

Cruise says if the land in question cannot be rezoned, they may give Loewen a conditional use permit, which would allow him to use the land for the lodge.
