Flood officials expect the Assiniboine River to Crest at Portage la Prairie today.

In its latest flood bulletin, the Manitoba Hydrologic Forecast Centre said the Assiniboine River crested at Holland Wednesday at an estimated 39,000 cfs. The peak is expected to reach Portage today.

"Crews at the Portage Diversion have completed preparations for emergency flows above 25,000 cfs," the bulletin explains. "A flood watch remains in effect for the area between Portage la Prairie and Headingley."

Flows at the bascule gates could increase to 15,000 cfs by today. Flood officials say temporary flood protection measures are complete on the lower Assiniboine River.
