Big Brothers Big Sisters of Portage la Prairie has received a shot in the arm, ensuring their summer activities this year are another success. The Portage la Prairie Lions Club dropped off a cheque for $1,000 yesterday, to help cover the cost of the summer programs. Big Brothers Big Sisters Executive Director Dawn Froese says they're grateful for the Lions Club's support, noting this funding will go a long way to ensuring the youth in the program have a great summer.

"That money is going toward our summer activities. All of the kids in our community based programs are invited to spend two afternoons and one full day a week with us, and we've got all kinds of crazy wonderful things planned."

Lions Treasurer AL Lightfoot attended the cheque presentation on behalf of the club. He says the Lions are always looking at ways to give back, and Big Brothers Big Sisters was an easy choice of an organization to support.

"Our motto is that we give, and Big Brothers Big Sisters is a big part of the community. We're more than happy to give some funds to them. We also donate at their bowling event in March. We're just here for the community."

Froese says it's always clear the local Lions Club can see their impact in the community, adding they're very grateful for the club's continued support.
