A unique art exhibition's currently on display at the Portage District Arts Centre in Portage la Prairie. Marketing and Events Coordinator Lee Beaton says the grand opening will provide some required insight to the exhibit.

"We got the current exhibit through the Manitoba Arts network. It's one of their touring exhibits. Ben Davis is a Brandon artist. He's one of the professors at Brandon University. This exhibit is definitely one of those exhibits that if you can hear the artist talk about it, you're going to have a much better understanding."

Beaton explains the theme.

"He takes a look at land. It is very important to him in understanding it. There are some multimedia pieces in this exhibition. He likes to use repetition and sequential pictures. You definitely need to come out and hear him on Thursday the 27th. He'll give an artist talk at that time. It's a really interesting exhibition where he looks at land and he wants people to interact with it, and think of different things. "

She says there's an explanation on the wall of the gallery. The exhibit's entitled Redrawn. Beaton notes Davis did an exhibition in 2012 entitled Drawn, and this is somewhat of an expansion of that. There are topographical maps all related to the exact same location just outside of Brandon. She adds a video component accompanies the pieces showing photos from the same spot over several seasons. Beaton says it's a different take on the subject and you'll hopefully leave the exhibit and relate it to your own experience.
