Yesterday's Portage Rotary Club luncheon highlighted the activities of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Portage la Prairie.

"I shared with the club members the different programs that we run," explains Executive Director Dawn Froese. "I told them some stories about the children who are involved in our program and the success that mentoring has within our community. I always think that people like the stories, because you can always paint a face on how this is making a difference. You can see the change that happens within people as they mentor."

Froese says she told of a former Little Brother who obtained his boat and drivers licenses with his Big Brother, and cooked a lot together which turned into a career passion. He's in post-secondary school as a result.

Froese explains they're currently open for Little Sisters, which is a rare thing for the service. So, if you have a daughter for whom you'd like to have a Big Sister it's a good time to head into their office.

She adds they could also use more male volunteers, noting there always seems to be more women who volunteer than men.
