After three years in the position, Portage Legion president Barb Bradley's term will come to a close at the end of the year.

Bradley reflects on her time as president, she explains there were some tough times during her term but is proud of how everyone worked together to surmount those difficulties.

"We went through a pretty tough time two or three years ago and had to make some really tough decisions, but everybody stood behind me and pulled together as a team and we've kept the Legion open and we're going okay."

Bradley notes during that time the Legion was forced to make some cuts and reduce their community involvement.

"We did cut back, a lot. We cut back on a bit of our community involvement. Some of our non-profit organizations that we had previously given our facility away to, we could no longer do. We were pinching pennies, really, for a couple of years but the Chase the Ace came along and just gave us that little extra. It boosted up our meat draw, it brought people, different people into the Legion."

She adds the little boost helped them out tremendously.

Bradley explains a three year term of presidency is never enough saying there's always more to be done and one could easily turn the presidency into a 60 hour/week job. Bradley will become the secretary-treasurer at the end of her term.
