June 20th
A broken down vehicle was left on the roadside of Yellowquill Trail overnight. When people returned for the vehicle the following day, they found that the interior had been burned, in what appeared to be an attempt to destroy the vehicle. Investigators are asking for any witnesses who saw anything suspicious in relation to this incident, that they contact their local police detachment. The vehicle was a red 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee, parked between the hours of 6:00 PM on Sunday night, and 9:30 AM on Monday morning.

June 21st
A motorist was observed travelling at 150 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Hwy 1. The male driver (33 years old) was issued a fine in the amount of $705.25.

Portage la Prairie RCMP were called to a disturbance on 4th Street SE, where an intoxicated female (23 years old) was causing problems. Officers spoke with all parties, and believed they had resolved the issue. Unfortunately, they were called back to home 30 minutes later. An intoxicated male was now causing problems, but disappeared before police returned. The previous intoxicated female was very agitated, and was arrested for breaching the peace. Officers once again believed they were finished with this call, but it was not to be. An intoxicated male (27 years old) began banging on the doors to the police station, demanding to see the female who had been lodged only minutes before. Officers determined the male was presently bound to court imposed conditions, and was arrested and lodged in police custody, to be released later that same day for another court date.

A motorist was observed travelling at 87 km/h in a 60 km/h construction zone along Hwy 1. Fines issued within a construction zone are doubled, which is clearly posted at the entrance to these areas. The male driver (65 years old) was issued a fine in the amount of $756.75.

June 22nd
Nothing reported to police that would be cause for concern to the public.

June 23rd
A motorist was observed travelling at 78 km/h in a 60 km/h construction zone along Hwy 1. Fines issued within a construction zone are doubled, which is clearly posted at the entrance to these areas. The male driver (31 years old) was issued a fine in the amount of $521.75.

June 24th
A detached garage on a property in the 500 block of Crescent Road W was broken into around 1:15 AM. Stolen from inside the garage was a red 1984 Honda 3-wheeler, last seen with Manitoba license plate 159A1. If you see a vehicle matching this description, please inform police of its whereabouts.

Several break and enters to garages and sheds had police searching for at least two male suspects. Sixteen calls for mischief to property, theft of property, and break and enter to garages and sheds came from all over Portage la Prairie. In certain instances, the suspects were seen damaging the doors to the garages or sheds. In some instances, thieves made off with bicycles and power tools. Investigators are asking for anyone who might have information regarding these incidents to contact their local police detachment.

Police observed a vehicle leaving the Canad Inns parking lot, driving at night, without any headlights. Once officers spoke with the male driver (18 years old) they determined that the vehicle was not registered, and the driver did not have a valid license. The driver was given two fines, one in the amount of $673.65, and the other to be determined by the court.

June 25th
Nothing reported to police that would be cause for concern to the public.

June 26th
Police observed a vehicle fail to stop for a red light along Saskatchewan Avenue in the early morning hours on Sunday. The male driver (41 years old) advised police that he had consumed alcohol earlier in the night. After failing a roadside screening device, the driver was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and escorted to the Portage la Prairie Detachment. The driver’s subsequent breath samples were over the legal limit, and resulted in a 3 month suspension of his driver’s license, and the vehicle being impounded for a minimum of 30 days at the owner’s expense.

Portage la Prairie RCMP were called to a break and enter in progress to a residential garage on 3rd Street NW. Once on scene officers observed two male suspects fleeing the garage, both wearing dark clothing and with bandanas over their face in order to disguise themselves. One male was caught quickly after a short foot chase, the second ran to a nearby home, where he was caught. Arrested and remanded into custody were Dexter Lloyd Roulette (31 years old) and Donovan Abraham George Spence (24 years old). Both were charged with the following offences: Breaking and Entering, Disguised with intent to commit an offence, Mischief under $5000, Resisting arrest, and Possession of break-in instruments. Both remained in custody until such time as they could be brought before the court.

Police are looking for the assistance of the community in locating a stolen dirt bike from the 200 block of 7th Avenue in Portage la Prairie. The yellow 2004 Suzuki dirt-bike, last seen with Manitoba license plate 8H396, was stolen from a garage in that area. If you see a vehicle matching that description, please contact your local police detachment and tell them of its whereabouts.

Police are looking for the assistance of the community in locating two ATV’s, stolen from the 500 block of 5th Street NE in Portage la Prairie. The first was a blue 1986 Suzuki LT230, the second was a black mid-80’s Yamaha Moto 4. If you see a vehicle matching the descriptions provided, please contact your local police detachment and tell them of its whereabouts.

Portage la Prairie RCMP were called to residential break and enter to a home in the RM of Portage la Prairie. Home owners found tire tracks leading away from their home, and their front door kicked in. The incident took place between 3:00 PM and 10:30 PM on June 26th.
