The Portage Plains United Way campaign kickoff luncheon's taking place tomorrow. Executive Director Mandy Dubois notes they've changed locations this time.

"We are officially launching the 2016 fundraising campaign. We will kick it off at our luncheon. This year we've changed it. It's at the William Glesby Centre. It's Thursday, September 8th. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and the program's going to start just after 12:00. We have it so that when you arrive you can pick up your lunch and go and eat, enjoy the program and then head back to work."

Dubois shares what you can expect.

"Each year we hold this kickoff luncheon to let the public know who the member agencies will be that we are going to support with the funding that we received with the fundraising campaign. We let them know our goal and how we hope to reach it. We try to send a message to potential donors and recurring donors of all the great work we've done in the past year and why their donations are so important."

She says they surpassed their goal last year of $247,000, by raising $257,000. Dubois says this year they're keeping in mind that a lot of great organizations are making initiatives in Portage, and all of them require support from donors. So, while they want to keep raising money, at the same time they're keeping the goal modest so they can leave room for the funding their clients require.

If you want to attend the luncheon, Dubois says get your tickets early, seeing as they're just about sold out.
