With Canada Day just 3 days away, the PRRA is ready for the celebration! Recreation Manager Monica Chorney says the setup of this year's events is very similar to last year, with the main stage set up outside the PCU Centre in Portage la Prairie, weather permitting. She outlines some of the day's events.

"We have the Portage Rotary Club hosting their pancake breakfast from 8:30am-11am and we have the United Way hosing their lunch from 12pm until at least 4pm. We will have musical entertainment that runs in the morning during the pancake breakfast. Opening ceremonies start at 11:30am, cake cutting is at noon, and then we run into our musical entertainment from 1pm until 9pm, with a number of local acts performing throughout the day."

She notes there are a few differences from last year's event.

"We've extended the time of the kids zone this year so it will run a little longer. The other difference is that all of our activities are going to be hosted outside this year, weather permitting, and the main stage will be the only stage operating this year, so there won't be any small stage. The pancake breakfast will be seated either in the multi-purpose room if you wish to stay out of the sun, but there will also be tables set up outside as well. That's the difference this year."

Chorney says they're changing the location of the fireworks, which will be beneficial.

"The fireworks are moving to a location closer to the windmill, which means the bridge will be open all day for vehicle traffic. The causeway will be open for foot traffic and for emergency and heavy vehicles during the day. This is really exciting for us because we can have people coming and going throughout the day and the evening, and taking advantage of everything that the island has to offer."

She says however, Crescent Road will be closed from Royal Road to 4th street southeast during that time. Click Here for a complete list of activities going on during the day.
