Last week Travel Manitoba encouraged a wide variety of Manitobans to get into interactive tourism. Tyler King is the Economic Development Officer for Carman and Dufferin, and was one of the participant's in Travel Manitoba's "Cutting Edge Workshop".

He tells us it was an experiential training workshop over 4 days, where they looked at developing interactive experiences for travellers. King says they want to provide more in depth, fun, opportunities with a take away item in some cases.

He adds there were attractions based people attending the course, other E.D.O's, and a variety of outfitters and operators. King says overall it was a great experience, especially because in Carman and the surrounding area there isn't one major attraction but instead many smaller opportunities that could provide unique experiences. Over the next few months he is looking forward to working on ideas with local groups such as the museum and pathway committees. King explains more about his project timelines.

He says overall it was a great experience with a lot of information to take away and consider when coming up with ideas that appeal to a variety of visitors.

On-going coaching on experience development by key Travel Manitoba staff will also be a feature of this initiative. Participants in the program who create new experiences will be eligible for select marketing support through Travel Manitoba at no cost for a defined period of time.

During the workshop they visited Oak Hammock Marsh, received a birding guide, tried snowshoeing, dissected an owl pellet, and went kite boarding.
