Cellular service in the Town of Stonewall should improve in the near future, as a new cellular tower will be put up.

At its meeting last week, Stonewall council approved the construction of a new tower at the MTS location on Centre Ave. Deputy Mayor Clive Hinds says it's something the town desperately needs.

"We found that there was a lot of flat or dead spots in the town using cell phones," Hinds says. "What this tower will do is give a 10-mile radius around the town area where we can actually use our cell phones, with strong signals coming in."

Hinds adds cellular infrastructure upgrades are imperative as usage demands continue to rise.

"More and more we find people on the move, on the go, are using their cellular services much more," says Hinds. "It is imperative for us to be more progressive."

Hinds notes Rogers customers will also experience increased mobile service through the new tower because of a usage agreement with MTS.
