The 10th Annual Central Plains Challenge Walk took place yesterday.

Central Plains Cancer Services Executive Director Sharilyn Knox shares the origins of the Challenge Walk.

"It's an event that was started by a group of local women who just wanted to make sure that when they were doing these types of events that the money stayed local and in our region."

She says over the last 10 years they've raised over $500,000 through the walk. The $50,000 fundraising goal for this year's walk was surpassed with the grand total coming to $56,877.50. Knox adds they exceeded last year's amount by $15,000. The highest fundraising team was team Mac Attack who raised nearly $7,000.

Despite the rain early in the day, plenty of people still came out to support CPCS. Knox notes even with the little bit of rain people were still in high spirits and having fun, but she adds they were lucky to have the MNP Building to provide some shelter.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary a barbeque was held after the walk.

Knox says a big thank you goes out to all the participants, volunteers, donors and sponsors who helped to make the event great.
